„Management, Information, Technology“ is the new department name at the Jade University of Applied Sciences. This name now represents the department which offers the study programs Industrial Engineering and Management, Business Computing, and Media, Management and Journalism.

The Engineering and Management Department was established in 1975. What made and continues to make the department unique is the interdisciplinary aspect of the first, and at the time only, like-named study program, which combined business as well as technical content beginning right with the first semester. Over the years, further study programs were added to the department, which were also developed to be interdisciplinary. The common denominator of all of the programs, is that they impart specialized business knowledge in combination with other specialized areas of knowledge. 

The new department name accommodates this development and represents the entire study program offered today. Dean Prof. Dr. Harald Lohner hopes that the students as well as the alumni of all of the programs will be able to identify more strongly with the department. “The new name illustrates the most important common key points and the interdisciplinary concept of our department. The excellent career opportunities of our alumni may be attributed, first and foremost, to the fact that all types of industries are looking for employees who can offer interface competencies, who have a practical training and who are able to take on a variety of tasks due to their interdisciplinary education.” 

The offer of study programs remains unchanged: interested students may continue to choose between the Bachelor programs of Business Computing, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Media, Management and Journalism.
 
Furthermore, Industrial Engineering and Management has been offered for several years now as a single-gender educational offer especially for women – this means that for the first three semesters, the courses are offered for strictly female groups if so desired. Industrial Engineering and Management is also offered as an online study program, which offers  the possibility to combine studies with other commitments, for example job or family. 

The department is particularly proud of the success of the Master Degree Program of Industrial Engineering and Management, which builds on the bachelor programs Industrial Engineering and Management and Business Computing. A further Master’s program “Management of Digital Media” is currently being planned.
