Institute of Metrology and Analysis Technique (IMA)

The institute IMA was founded in June, 1998. Its areas of specialization are metrology, surveying engineering and national survey. This work entails measuring objects of widely varying dimensions: Terrestrial and maritime areas spreading over many kilometres can be surveyed, as can deformations of buildings or the tiniest deviations on manufactured artefacts. Tailor-made analysis and visualization programs are being developed for one-off surveying and metrology applications.

Alongside high-end conventional surveying instruments, GNSS devices and high-precision industrial measuring systems are also used. Exact measuring tasks can be conducted in the metrology laboratory in the basement. Furthermore, the geodetic workshop in the department of Construction and Geoinformation is annexed to the institute.

The institute calibrates surveying instruments, e.g. electronic tachymeters. For this purpose an 800 metre reference range has been set up near Oldenburg. The institute offers calibration services to companies and authorities.

The IMA aims to establish ties with companies in the Oldenburg region and build up new contacts through co-operation projects in the field of metrology and analysis technique. Furthermore we want to intensify the co-operation with related sciences such as mechanical engineering, math and hydrography.
