Executive Summary of Course
To provide non-native English-speaking participants with an opportunity to do a short exam preparation course (3 hours) and a simulated mock International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test under exam conditions (3 hours).

Course description
As part of funding secured through an EU ERASMUS Teaching Mobility Grant from the University of Birmingham, the Jade Hochschule is offering an extra course (EXTRAKURS) for students interested in practicing the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) under test conditions.

The course is designed to be a quick and easy way to get some hints and tips on doing the IELTS test and then to complete all four elements of a full-scale practice IELTS test: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. At the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to do the IELTS test under exam conditions in Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg and also online. Students completing the test will receive their banded scores, which can be regarded as predictions for what they would likely get in the real IELTS test.

The course is divided into two parts:

  • 3 hours examination preparation in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
  • 3 hours for the practice IELTS examination at the respective location

Students can choose from six separate appointments and locations. When registering, you must choose one session only at one location.

* Although Test Day lasts 3 hours, candidates will be allocated an individual Speaking Test Time after 1pm. The Speaking Test takes 15 minutes per candidate. The first appointment will take place from 1:00pm-1:15pm and the last appointment will be at 3:45pm-4:00pm. An audio recording of the Speaking Test will be made.

By the end of the short course, course participants should:

  • gain an understanding of the structure, layout and format of the IELTS test
  • engage with the various parts of the individual test
  • identify different exam techniques to maximise test scores
  • get an opportunity to sit the individual test components under exam conditions: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
  • receive a transcript of results for the mock IELTS test
