The following requirements generally apply for a professorship at a university of applied sciences:

• a completed university degree
• suitability for teaching and educational practice
• exceptional ability to carry out in-depth, independent academic work
• outstanding achievements in the application or development of academic knowledge and methods during at least five years’ professional experience, of which at least three years must have been gained outside the higher education sector
• further subject-specific requirements as set out in the relevant vacancy notice

Professorships are filled through appointment procedures, which take several months to complete. An appointment committee formed by the relevant academic department is responsible for drawing up an appointment proposal. An appointment procedure is a strictly regulated process and is conducted in accordance with the principle of selecting the best candidate.
