Beschreibung

Alternative propulsion systems for freight sailing, defined here as “hybrid sailing concepts”, have high potentials, due to rising oil prices and environmental aspects. Hybrid sailing concepts can lead to new business opportunities, job creation, more attractive regions and a more sustainable future. SAIL will build capacity, develop, improve and test concepts, develop business cases, build alliances and will embed hybrid sailing in policy and society. A strategic sustainable Sea Transport Plan and a Communication Plan will guarantee project follow-up and implementation.Jade Hochschule is responsible for the organization and the outputs of Workpackage 3 (Applied technical engineering, design and execution of pilot projects). In this Workpackage strategic scenarios for the implementation of hybrid sailing concepts and planning tools (e.g. routing systems, taking climatic conditions into account) are developed and tested. Furthermore possibilities of embedding hybrid sailing into policy and legislation of the North Sea Region are developed.
