ITRACT - progress for public transport

Der Zugang zu Mobilität Access to mobility and the accessibility of places are more than ever an important aspect of social participation. However, these goals are a major challenge, especially in rural areas.

ITRACT (Improving Transport and Accessibility through New Communication Technologies) is a transnational Interreg IVb project, addressing the mobility and information needs of rural areas. The growing importance of the Internet and the proliferation of mobile devices in society are opening up new opportunities for information processing and dissemination. With ITRACT, the transition to public transport can be made more attractive through easily accessible, understandable and up-to-date information.

To this end, various solutions to improve public transport will be developed at Jade University until 2015 together with the transport region Ems-Jade and companies of the transport network Ems-Jade and international partners, such as

  • Verification of student cards with a smartphone
  • Presentation of timetables in real time on mobile and stationary terminals
  • Development of a self-sufficient and cost-effective real-time tracking system for vehicles
  • Implementation of timetable data in an internationally used data format
