Department of Management, Information, Technology- International Activities

Within the Department of Engineering and Management there are many activities which support and advance the intercultural and language competencies of the students of Engineering and Management, Business Computing and Media Management and Journalism.
 

  • A study semester or practical training phase may be absolved abroad.
  • Students spending time abroad are supported by the International Office as well as by the international contact person for the Department.
  • Within the program of studies Engineering and Management, the International Project (mandatory module; 2 weekly semester hours, offered as a block course, 3 credits) has been taking place for 14 years now, in cooperation with a Dutch university (Christelijke Hogeschool Windesheim, Zwolle).  The language used in the project is English. Since 2017, six European partner universities are involved in the project.
  • In cooperation with the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering (Texas Tech University, Lubbock, USA) and the department of Engineering Sciences at Jade University, we offer a summer program each year. Up to three modules are taught in English.
  • Excursions take place on a regular basis, for example to Brussels (Belgium), Rezneke (Latvia), Budapest (Hungary), Kotka (Finnland) or to the USA.
  • A mandatory module for „Business English" (4 weekly semester hours, 4 credits) is integrated into the program of studies Media Management and Journalism.
  • The online study program Engineering and Management contains two mandatory modules for English: „Business English" and „Technical English" (5 credits each).
  • Furthermore, required electives and elective modules for language skills are offered for all interested, for example „English for your Career Start“ (2 weekly semester hours, 2 credits), „Business English I" (4 weekly semester hours), „Business English II" (4 weekly semester hours) and French (2 weekly semester hours).
  • The Department has a teacher of English as permanent staff member as well as several visiting lecturers. All of the language teachers are native speakers.
